Mersea Island Trust Governance
Mersea Island Trust (MIT) is a Registered Charity No: 206064. MIT owns and manages two sheltered housing schemes on Mersea Island. The Trust is managed by volunteers who serve as either Trustees or Committee members. Trustees meet at least seven times per year. Paid staff manage the daily running of the organisation, and a Trustee House Chairperson is appointed to each Court and attends coffee mornings each week. Tenant representatives are invited to committee meetings to report on issues and be involved in the decision-making process. They also attend the Trusts Annual General Meeting.
The Trustees have overall responsibility for the leadership and management of the organisation including:
- Setting the organisations strategy and policy
- Ensuring the organisation delivers its service commitments.
- Overall responsibility for compliance which include finance, fire safety, security matters, maintenance and residents’ well-being.
- Close contact is maintained with paid staff to ensure both Courts operate as effectively as possible.
The Trust relies heavily upon the work of unpaid volunteers to act as Trustees, and Committee Members. If you would like to assist the Trust in a voluntary capacity, please make direct contact with us via our contact form.
